Haircut Help at Just 4 Kids Salon – Hoboken, NJ

By Kathy Zucker • Wednesday, November 20, 2013 Last week, we had a haircut debacle in the Zucker household. It took two days to get an appointment, but Just 4 Kids Salon did a great job fixing my son’s hair. Eh, he was due for a haircut anyway. My seven year old is now begging to have her birthday party at Just 4 Kids. To satisfy my daughter’s inner stylist, I got her a 4M Princess Doll Making Kit. Hopefully cutting the removable hair will help keep her paws off her baby sister’s curls. Deal Alert: Get $5 off all haircut appointments on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays at Just 4 Kids Salon. Call 201-653-5887 to book and mention “Metro Moms” to snag your savings! Offer valid through December 2013. Taking the Train to the Tree Lighting at NY Botanical Garden

By Kathy Zucker • Monday, November 18 2013 The Holiday Train Show at the New York Botanical Garden is an annual tradition for my kids, ages 7, 5 and one. The show tends to be very crowded from opening day in November through the end of the year, with crowds tapering off before the show closes in January. Last year, my family had an incredibly special private viewing of the train show thanks to a special event for MasterCard holders. This year, we were onstage with another MasterCard family as the kids were the Masters of Ceremony for the Christmas tree lighting. Celebrate Veterans Day By Reconnecting With Roots – Bay Ridge

By Kathy Zucker • Monday, November 11, 2013 My kids had a 4.5 day weekend for Veterans Day because Hoboken, NJ public schools were out of session for teachers to attend a convention. After a day lounging around the house in pajamas, we headed to Brooklyn. My family has lived in the same house in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn for close to a hundred years. Members have left for the Korean War and signed up for the Vietnam War draft from that brick row house. In addition to the fun of visiting their grandparents, my kids love going to Bay Ridge to pick vegetables in the garden and play in the many green spaces there. The quiet tree-lined streets and brisk sea air make it hard to believe you are still in New York City. Every time I tell people I am from Bay Ridge, they start raving about the food. I have eaten roast beef lunch at Chadwicks and high school graduation dinner at Fort Hamilton Army Base. This weekend, I took my kids for a trip down memory lane at Hinschs. My father grew up eating at Hinschs and is full of stories about his high school crew guzzling egg cream sodas there in the 1950s. Our Hinschs server, Barbara, started working there in the 1950s – “never wanted to work anywhere else.” pic.twitter.com/QUO62X3kGG — Kathy Zucker (@kathyzucker) November 11, 2013   More – Free + Train Show = Perfect Holiday Kickoff Kathy Zucker, CEO of Metro Moms Network, mother of three young children and New York Life Keep Good Going Shorty Award winner and judge, writes about juggling career and family in an urban setting. Dad Takes Second Shift in the Zucker Household

By Kathy Zucker • Saturday, November 9, 2013 This morning, I woke up and opened Facebook. Instantly, these cartoons popped up on my timeline. Now, I am not a saint. I definitely felt this way with my first child, when I was struggling just to get out of bed since my body didn’t work the way I was used to. But over the years, as my second and third children came along and my husband patiently incorporated them into his precious time off on evenings and weekends, I changed my mind. My husband is just as qualified as I am to care for our kids, ages 7, 5 and 1, and in many ways he is more qualified. Daddy is the one who packs lunches in our home, takes the kids on nature walks while Mommy answers email and writes blog posts, checks homework and bandages endless boo boos. This morning, my husband will get the kids up, change diapers and give them breakfast before handing the baton to me when it’s time for him to take a shower. At 9:45 am, we will head to our fencing club where he will teach and my oldest child will take a group class while the middle one plays next to Daddy’s fencing class. Next week, he will come home early to watch the kids on two evenings while I record video interviews in Hoboken, NJ. I would not have been able to build any of my four companies without my husband willingly pitching in for child care. You may never see him at one of my company’s events, nor will he be cheering for me on social media. But he is doing something much more precious – providing stability for our young family. Thank you, @noahlz, for being the rock of our family. Happy birthday and I love you. Results Published from Autism Infant Research Study

By Kathy Zucker • Thursday, November 7, 2013 Seven years ago when I was pregnant with my first child, I was approached by the head of an infant cognition study department. She asked, “Do you or your husband have any family history of autism?” When I replied in the negative, she followed up with, “Would you like to take part in a study to help diagnose autism as early as possible?” Of course, I said yes. For the next two years, I took my kids with me to Newark frequently to participate in testing. What was involved? Completing a lengthy questionnaire detailing family medical history and the circumstances of pregnancy and birth, having the kids wear eye trackers as they watched television to see what their eyes followed, taking an assessment test and finally, undergoing brain scanning. We did not receive compensation for our participation. Here is a pic of my daughter having her brain scanned. Pic of my daughter during brain scan for #autism research program. The research has been called “a major leap forward.” More – Support Group In Your Back Pocket – NJ Digital Moms Kathy Zucker, CEO of Metro Moms Network, mother of three young children and New York Life Keep Good Going Shorty Award winner and judge, writes about juggling career and family in an urban setting.
