Hi, I’m Kathy and I am a recovering realestateaholic.
Ever since I can remember, I have been obsessed with real estate. Growing up as a kid in Brooklyn, Manhattan was a shining star so close to my grasp yet so far away. My #1 goal as a kid was to live in Manhattan. In the thirty years since then, I can’t say much has changed. However, other goals have sprung up and clamored for space at the top of the priority list.
What are those goals? Having kids. Yes, I was one of those annoying little girls constantly playing family with her dolls. When I had play dates, everybody wanted to be the bride with the old lace curtain for a veil. And nobody ever wanted to be the daddy, coming home from work to pretend to knock on the door and say, “Honey, I’m home!” We would trade off being the dad (booby prize) for being the mom next time around.
Equally important? Having a career. I LOVE WORKING. Yes, the all caps are deliberate. I love working so much that I will scream it to the skies. Not only do I love working, I am also an overachiever. Beginning at age 12 when I was accepted at Hunter College High School, and then again when I got into an Ivy League college, I have always striven for excellence. It is that drive, that constant pushing myself to do better and achieve higher goals, that leads me to reinvent my life over and over again, making small and large improvements along the way. And you know who gets dragged along on the ride? My husband and three kids, ages 7, 6 and 2.
I love New York City. It is the secret to success for me and my family. All the world congregates in NYC – sooner or later everyone of influence winds up there. And when they have a spare hour to grab lunch or dinner? I am available to meet with them and pick their brains. Living in Hoboken, NJ surrounded by mass transit options including the 24-hour PATH train, I can be in Manhattan within 25 minutes. And the connections I make through these excursions are unbeatable.
I get to attend exclusive private parties reserved for marketing agencies.

The kids get in on the action too. My seven year old recently appeared in her first film cameo.

And my two older kids won a contest to work for Lego.

So what’s the moral of the story? Living in or near NYC is crazy expensive. However, if you play your cards right, you can make dreams come true for yourself and your family.
